Use Technology Deliberately

A quick Google search indicates that to do something deliberately you do it consciously, intentionally and on purpose. Technology should be used to make our lives easier, communicate better and have greater impact. By thinking more about how and why we use technology in our lives we can do more with less.

By technology I do not just mean computers, phones and tablets. Indeed their deliberate use is of paramount importance but technology is much broader than that. Whether you are using a car, TV or cash card considering its use can save or make you money. Let’s just look at some of the ways that being deliberate could make a difference to you.

Considering which car you drive for fuel efficiency, when you drive it and how carefully you drive can have a significant impact on how much you spend on it. Not only this but thinking about whether you should drive or whether to use alternatives can reduce expense. Walking, public transport or simply making a phone / video call should feature in your deliberate use of this form of technology.

Cash Card

Your cash and credit card may not seem to be something that you’d think as be technology these days. Computer networks that underpin the banking system are what enable you to be able to put a card in an ATM, type in a pin and get cash. Deliberate use of the technology can help you make or save money. For instance if you have a card that gives you cash back (or other rewards) you can get something back for your regular expenses. Limiting how often you use a card can help you keep hold of your money. For some, having a cash budget allows them to keep an eye on how much money they have left. So if you are the kind of person that does not connect spending money on a card with the graft required then this might be something to consider.

Watch it less and do something creative instead is my best advice. That said if you are going to watch the goggle box then make sure that it is something that you enjoy. Try not to veg out in front of stuff that you aren’t into. Watch films, sport or whatever makes you happy but don’t watch just what happens to be on.

Whatever else

As you can see, the three examples above show you that a little bit of thought about how you use technology can make a big difference. By using technology deliberately you should be making the most of the investment. If you have any top tips that you’d like to share then please leave a comment below.
