High Quality Mouse

I purchased this mouse to use with a Mac Mini during my university degree, and it was a great purchase. It is one of the most comfortable ones I have ever used, compared to various other models I have tried over the years. It is quick and responsive too which is a must for any mouse.

This came with batteries included which is a rarity these days, and came in a nice case just for effect. Something Apple do very well, it is the little touches which we all appreciate. You can also use this on a Windows machine with an additional driver.

The only downside is it is on the pricey side, however I would still recommend this strongly. Sometimes you have to pay a little bit of a premium to get that high quality experience.

Overall it is a great mouse with superb quality.

I hesitated for quite a while before buying this for my new 13" Macbook Pro. I'm now VERY glad I got it.

The MBP trackpad is great when on the go but it strains my fingers after too long, because I find myself having to hold them in mid-air in an awkward position all the time. The Magic Mouse, by contrast, gives me no trouble - I find it's ergonomically perfect.

I did have to turn the sensitivity very high though - and I got an app for making the acceleration more Windows like. I can't find it now though either on my Mac or online but there are various options out there. I suspect this is the single biggest reason why people are reporting wrist strain when using this mouse.

I have even been able to spend hours playing mouse intensive games like Rome II Total War using this mouse, although getting used to the constant right-clicking that the came requires took a while.

A useful tip - I have found that the back of my Kindle Paperwhite, in its OEM case, makes for a perfect portable mousemat!

I now carry my mouse everywhere - it comes with a hard plastic box which, although it needs a rubber band to hold it closed once the tape has been removed, is really useful.

Very easy to use mouse

I used this mouse on a mac book. It was very easy to setup and install. Simply turn the bluetooth on and add the mouse on the settings page on the mac. The only con I found with this mouse was it was a bit difficult to get use to not having a right click button. This can however be configured on the settings page by clicking down with two fingers. Overall a very good mouse!

Not good for gestures

I'm a bit of an Apple fan but I really don't like this mouse at all. It's a great idea to be able to use gestures directly on a mouse but the size, shape and weight of this mouse makes it very difficult to use gestures on it.

In my opinion, it's not wide enough for gestures, it rocks from side to side due to its shape and it moves too easily due to being light when you want to make a gesture. As a conventional mouse and being able to click almost anywhere, it works quite well but for gestures, I just can't use it properly. I also find my fingers ache after a while of trying to use it for gestures due to trying to use the same had to stop it moving and make a gesture.

The magic trackpad (different Apple product) works really well for gestures and to move a mouse cursor. I had to buy that to replace this mouse.

[Later] I've now had the Magic Mouse for 2 months and while it is great for casual use, I just can't use it properly for serious work, eg program editing. I had to switch off gestures (one of its selling points) because often I'd put my hand on the mouse to use it and a gesture would slide the screen or whatever. I also found it very poor when trying to scroll the screen.

While I know from reading other reviews that some people love it, it's not for me for serious text editing work. I've now bought a more conventional bluetooth mouse that has a scroll wheel and works brilliantly with my macbook pro.

It's a lovely thing but......

......my hand and wrist are aching after half a day using it.

What's good: the design (obviously) and the cleverness. The touch sensitive top surface for the gestures allowing scrolling and swiping is very intuitive and like the trackpad on the macbook. The setup was easy. It's nicely weighted and has a nice high-quality click when you press a button.

What's not: the comfort of using it. My hands are large-ish (I'm 6'2" and "robustly" built) but do have reasonably trim hands. I suspect that this mouse is too narrow and too low compared to most wireless windows mice I've used meaning that I have to curl my hand together laterally and angle the wrist downwards more than is comfortable. I would recommend trying before you buy, if you can.

Unfortunately too uncomfortable

It's too uncomfortable to use because of how low it is to the desk, and the feet at the bottom are terribly loud and cause a lot of friction on any surface I've tried it on (it will definitely scratch your desk over time). Apple has always had a problem designing computer mice, they never get it quite right. This is no exception.

I would give it 1 star but on the positive side I would say the multi-touch features work well and the laser tracking sensor is very accurate. However, because the mouse has a touch-sensitive top surface and is so low to the ground, I wouldn't say this is a mouse good for playing games - even if you just play light games or only game occasionally.

If you suffer from RSI or Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, this mouse will be very uncomfortable to use - don't buy it.

Overall, a real disappointment but equally no surprise when Apple hasn't released a mouse that's good for such a long time. Not everyone will agree with this review, and I appreciate some people have no problems with this mouse, but that isn't universally shared with all Magic Mouse users (me included).
