Works Great! Nexus 5 with Android 5

OK. First, this works great on my Nexus 5 with Android 5. No problems, right out of the box, bang. I didn't know about these adapters before buying this one. My carrier unlimited data plan means I can watch content as much as I want. I don't have a "normal" home network so this is a good thing. It also works great porting into my 24" computer monitor, and my phone works with my Apple wireless keyboard & mouse, I can now work full screen off my phone, nice. This also allows me to not USB "tether" my phone in an un-authorized manner that can create problems, ie, my carrier can shut me off if I abuse it, they seem to leave me alone if I go light on tethering.
(Interestingly Google / Android updates above 4.4 "crippled" most tethering app functions, I used to be able to easily tether my Macs, PC's, Android tablet with wire or bluetooth, now I can only tether my PC via USB... but now Cast has kind of given back a lot of that capability and then some)

I have also just sort of learned about Miracast, and my phone is Cast-ready. I thought "cast" was only about Chromecast (or similar) that need to work within your existing home network, but no, true Miracast is not network dependent, so I may try the Belkin or Asus adapter, hopefully the Belkin if Amazon would match the Microsoft store price of $39.99 currently on sale.

This adapter may still be the better option, video is clean and smooth (the included instructions do mention that sometimes video can take a minute to "settle down" and run clear, and that does happen, and Amazon and Neflix do have video quality settings to adjust), Miracast users report several issues with various brands of adapters, and when you look at the list of what's out there, the Chromecast, Fire, Apple etc are mixed in with the true Miracast type, and they are very different.

Make sure slimport cable is fully inserted..

I'm using this with my LG G2 Verizon phone. I opted for standard delivery & it arrived two days earlier than the first projected delivery date. I followed the directions in the box & I got my flatscreen hd tv to recognize the hdmi cable hooked to the device..but no input on the screen. So I unhooked the cables/turn off tv/phone & tried again..this time the tv didn't pick up my phone & I selected my other hdmi device..mistake b/c I couldn't get tv to recognize the hdmi connected to phone lol. So I unplugged again/turned off tv/phone & switched my hdmi cables connected to the tv..hdmi 1 switched to hdmi 2, and the cable that was in hdmi 2 was switched to hdmi 1. So now my tv is on the correct hdmi for the phone but it still no picture. I even tried going to Setting/Sharing networks & turned on MiraCast to see if it would find my tv or just plain work..nothing.

So I started over again & noticed I had my phone charger plugged into the device, so I unplugged it & removed the slimport cable & put it back in..it went in a tad further than it did before & bingo, it worked! I saw my homescreen on the bigscreen lol. I feel stupid b/c it wasn't fully inserted all this time lol. Then I plugged the charger back in & everything's good to go. Make sure the slimport cable is fully inserted. BTW, I checked to see if MiraCast was still on in the settings & it wasn't..it's automatically turned off if you restart or turn off your phone. Hope this helps someone if you accidentally change the hdmi input & can't get it back or if you experience a similar problem.

Works great... with the case off

I use this with my Nexus 5. I have a Spigen Slim Armor case, and while I wouldn't say the cutout for the port at the bottom of the phone is small, it's kind of a tossup whether this adapter will work with the case on. Sometimes it will work, sometimes not, and sometimes it will work and then randomly cut out the video or do something wonky. With the case off, though, it works great. Picture is as good as you would expect it to be, and with an 850ma charger hooked in, my phone battery will either stay the same or go up slightly (because the screen has to be on for video to be output). I am using it with an AmazonBasics 3' HDMI cable. If you are caseless, have a big cutout in your case for the USB port, or don't mind removing your case when you want to use the adapter, this product works great. I just wish the plug were a little smaller.

I bought the SlimPort adapter along with a cheap 3 meter HDMI cable, but could not get a signal on my HDTV from my LG G Pad. Cable Matters emailed me after I received the product and I notified them of the problem. They suspected the cable and mailed to me, free of charge, a 2 meter HDMI cable of much better quality (thicker). It worked! The SlimPort and HDMI cable sends a good picture to my HDTV from my tablet even though I didn't plug in the provided micro USB power cable to my USB charger. I can now surf the Internet and view movies on my HDTV. I am very happy with the product and the service provided by Cable Matters after the sale. That type of service goes a long way in maintaining customer satisfaction and loyalty.

I suspect problems other people experienced may be due to their inferior HDMI cables, like mine, or perhaps their devices were not SlimPort compatible, e.g. MHL.

Hi after having problems getting my Google nexus 7 connected to TV, Cable matters gave me sound advice. My advice is to not rely on reviews, as there are so many combinations of cables that do not always work with every Device. like said I was having problems and having bought a cable (after reading a review that said it would work on nexus 7) which didn't work, I purchased a Chromecast. Due to that being on my TV and the setting up it took, especially if it drops out and you have to start again, I decided that I need something else for on the go. The Chromecast is very good, it is supported by Netflix, Utube, BBC iPlayer, and you can now cast direct, but that uses battery power of the pad. It also has a habit of dropping out when I had it powered from the usb. From the mains adapter it will power up the TV, not something I wanted as I didn't want the unit on permanently so I have opted for the usb conection, and after a while it has become reliable, even after a power cut it still re-connected on its own. As for the Slimport, it is very good, and contrary to Item description comes with a HDMI lead, it also requires an external power supply, and ausb lead is supplied also. Compared to the Chromecast, its easier to connect, just plug and play, just what you want if you visiting friends etc (or at work in my case at lunch times) . However, as there are so many devices out there, I have found it lacking on my Samsung TV, up against the Chromecast. It has to be unplugged and re-connected if something doesn't play. It will not cast from Flixster, neither does the Chromecast. It will however do Utube, Netflix and your web browser, BBC iPlayer. It does use the battery power of the pad, but the usb power connecter supplied, charges your pad as well as powering the Slimport. Whereas the Chromecast when using the cast plug in for Netflix or utube and other supported apps, streams direct from you broadband, and therefore once you've selected play, the pad is on standby. I am happy with both, and have to say The slim port has the edge for simplicity, would have got 5 Stars, if it casted everything, but that could be the Flixster app, or TV and not the Slimport.

After my premature excitement, I have had lots of problems with the slimport, mainly freezing, very hit and miss as to how long it will cast for, nearly watched a whole film, then to un freeze have to keep unplugging the HDMI cable. Did some research and found lots of similar problems, and seems all down to Hdmi. this sucks as I'm using the one supplied so surely that should be suitable? Contacted seller, very sorry to hear my problems and suggested I change the HDMI, no surprise there. I will do this as I use it at work and would like to be able to get it to work, at my fathers as he doesn't have Wi-Fi etc. I have also noticed the picture quality is not a patch on the Chromecast, sorry but have reversed my original decision, Chromecast or any dongle type of streaming/casting will beat this cheap peace of plastic, but adequate when it works if you don't have Wi-Fi at location your using it at. I have taken advice form cable matters to try a different HDMI lead, I have tried two, one a very expensive one off of my x box, and still the same problems. I have read on forums of similar problems, some say a much shorter lead required due to low power of Slimport, not sure, as it will work without the mains connected. I've wasted too much time and will buy a second Chromecast to travel around with. You get what you pay for suppose. Only 1 stars will edit my original review
