I'm possibly a bit strange in that I didn't buy this cable to use it for video. I am instead using a VGA cable as a handy way to connect up 11 pins over a slightly extended distance. As part of this endeavour, I discovered that all of the cables in my posession were cheap and had a lot of common grounds, making them useless for me - I think my cables only had 9 distinct wires, with RGB return, both grounds, and both reserved pins all tied together. I figured all cables were likely to be like this now, and it would be incredibly difficult and/or expensive to find a higher quality cable, but no, a couple of minutes on Amazon, and up pops a sturdy-looking cable for a good price.
Whilst I checked the description of the cable and reviews, it was hard to know exactly what this cable carried. As such, once it arrived, I broke out the multimeter and did a test of every combination. My findings were that there are twelve distinct wires; every pin on this cable is separate, with the exception of the red, green and blue returns (pins 6, 7, and 8), which are common (and shared with the shell of the connector), and the two grounds (pins 5 and 10).
