I've gone through a few of these. Each time I swear I'm going to epoxy the case around the dock connector, and I never do. Eventually it comes loose, and I snap it back together a few times, until it won't or I lose a half, and then I just use it until I break one of the little wires off the dock connector. At this price I guess I can be lazy with it. I use one in a Mini Cooper, and one in my Tacoma. I recently upgraded to the 5s. Using the Apple .2m adapter cable, one of these cables will not charge, and one has a shoddy connection inside and reacts like I've unplugged the headphone cable and stops playing (if I actually had a headphone cable plugged in that is) They both worked fine with my old 4s, so at the moment I'm just charging with this cable and then using a regular 3.4mm cable for audio, but I'll get around to swapping one of the cables out of the Mini and testing that. The one that didn't charge, I had it plugged in once where it actually was charging, but then I unplugged it in surprise to test it, and it didn't charge anymore, hehe. So, buyer beware if you're using a lightning adapter, but it works. Mostly.

Its a cable. It has continuity. Sound is transferred and batteries are charged (yay). It just sucks because I have two iDevices I use in my car regularly, or bring them with me. I seldom leave them in my car. The retainers are sometimes stupid tough to remove from either iPod. I am concerned that it will soon get stuck in one side or the other and render me incapable of removing it.

Amazon (awesome as always) is sending another one. I hope that it works better than the first. Even if it does my n-1 experience is that these cables are 50/50.

I was excited when I plugged it in and it worked great. The wires are really long for use in the car, so this created a little mess. I was tolerant of the long wires, but the real drawback was when i pulled my ipod out of the plug and the whole thing fell apart. The wires were exposed. i tried to put the connector back into the housing, but it would go back in. After a few tries the housing fell apart. Very Disappointing.

I combined this with a Griffin Powerjolt Dual Universal USB Micro connector for my vehicle. An iPhone 4 (not tested with the 4S) accepted this cable without any problems allowing me to both charge and listen to music at the same time.

If I were to use a manufacturer or carrier charger, combined with the headphone jack to connect to my car stereo, I used to get a nasty, high-pitched whine from my stereo while charging. Because this cable pulls from the line-out audio channels, the nasty whine is gone and I get to charge at the same time - great for car trips.

Be aware that your equalizer and volume knobs no longer affect the sound quality or level, so it's up to your car stereo, or other device, to manage those aspects for you.

This cable is worthless. I got it for my new car and ipod. I finally have an input jack, so I ordered the cable. Took awhile to ship, I used it once. I went to use it this weekend and it would not work, it played for a second then nothing would play. It was cheap so I can't be too mad, but I still thought it would last more then one day.
