There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
I ordered another identical item, this arrived the next day, connected and booted it up, connected to WiFi quickly and worked fine. The WiFi signal is weak as stated by other reviewers but by moving the box to various positions an acceptable signal was obtained.
Surfing the web is quite quick bearing in mind we have very fast Virgin cable broadband. Very pleased overall BUT the main reason I purchased this was to watch TV when Sky intermittently loses signal (this happens often with our Sky and is being investigated). This device does NOT support Sky Go or ITV iplayers but BBC iplayer works OK. I believe this is due to the chipset in this particular make as I have an Android tablet and Android phone that both support these players. I am disappointed about this but every other operation I have tried is good. If you do not want Sky Go TV then this is a great little device allowing most of the features of a tablet on your TV. I also bought a mini wireless keyboard with mouse pad combined for around £12 and would recommend buying one of these.
If you need a cheap device that does what it says in the tin, this seems to be it. So far I like it.
extending its life for a few more years its brilliant. sony have now seen fit to start removing smart tv features from my only a few year old smart tv,
i think they want everyone to buy a new sony smart tv.... wrong, we now use this little stick to watch youtube videos, browse the internet, or add apps and games etc from the google play store, its an ideal box to dip your toe in the android tv box market, xbmc was pre installed,
so if you know what yr doing to add functionality, it will do a lot more, dont forget to add either an air mouse or controller, yr android phone
might even be able to control it via an app on google play store. worth every penny in my opinion
One caveat - I use a Sony Bravia TV which is unable to supply sufficient current from the USB port so use of the included power supply is essential. BTW, the OS on the one I received was the later 4.2.2 (Jelly Bean).
Cheers - Joe
It was pretty fast for the first few weeks, and downloaded and played apps seamlessly, although (being my curious self) I decided to go in to developer options to change a few things. after activating "simulate second screen" it couldn't handle it and now crashes and freezes when I try to restart. I tried reinstalling the firmware but can't get my head round how to do it.
I spent a night playing with this device and have to say it beats the Apple TV hands down.
With XBMC installed with the right repo's added it quickly streams movies and TV shows.
Only let down as other have mentioned is the poor wifi signal, which can be rectified if you are savvy with a soldering iron.
Great product and worth every penny, second one on order!
Not even 5 mins to get it plugged in and up and running, switch on, sign in, short update while it gathers info off your other devices and you are on your way.
Only gripe with it so far is I cannot get Sky Go Tablet to work on it, (wont work on rooted devices) hopefully there is a way around it, if not no big loss.
Very happy with it, belting bit of kit for the money.
