Not having a smart TV or Sky plus etc, I was always missing programmes I wanted to watch. This Roku solve's that. I can now watch anything I miss on catch up. I know I could watch catch up through my computer, but it's not the same as on TV. We have a 50" TV (husbands choice not mine!!!!) and the picture through the Roku is perfect. I can also watch things like YouTube through it. It's great using my Iphone I search for clips I want to watch and press the play button and it appears on my TV screen. I can thoroughly recommend this to anyone who has not got all the latest technology but would like access to things like catch up etc. (Some Channels you do have to pay for, you choose what channels you want to download and it tells you if there's a fee), but if like me you just want things like I player, 4od, youtube, facebook and many more they are free.

Awesome bit of kit, cant afford a new TV but this little box has transformed my ancient CRT TV into a smart TV, really easy to set up, plug in and follow the on screen instructions and your ready to go. it doesnt come with many channels loaded and I found that the roku site is american so some channels are not available to me but this might be my fault not finding the right site. However I subscribed to now TV and netflix and so now get sky channels and movies as well. Really pleased with it picture is good. I did buy a scart adapter but it was only a few pounds. It also doesnt seem to interfer with my DVR box so I have the best of both worlds now.

Good for a time but now, after 2 years, has a history of freezing so that a reset is necessary practically every day. Now TV was unwatchable for some time with only a quarter of the screen showing a picture, BBC iPlayer starts, stops, restarts and then freezes, and other apps work without problems only an unpredictable basis. Roku do not respond to any questions and offer no help. This is a great pity because this little device promises so much and, sometimes, delivers it.

Got this to provide netflix and bbc1 in my bedroom. Used to use an adroid tablet attached to the tv but that proved annoying most of the time, android just doesn't do netflix or streaming as well, particularly when you are by proxy outputting to another device, its clunky and can be annoying and the sizing issue between a tablet and a tv without a true-scale option means the picture is always inset. Thought this would provide the answer and it does just that.

Pros:

* Tiny unit, very easy to install and setup
* Interface is clear easy and responsive, as is the controller (although app is even better)
* Netflix / bbc superb quality, no buffering and easily navigated...i have good download speeds which is key of course!
* Perfect screen fitting!!!
* Seemingly the future given the money being invested by Roku, the really high quality app for control is just brilliant for example
* You can sling device media (pics and music) using the Roku app (free) and video using the playto app (£3.00ish), this app can also be used to provide direct youtube on Roku but does it only fairly well. You can still get the videobuzz channel (which was taken down by Roku) as a sideload depending upon your feelings about doing that.

Cons:

* Could do with 4od...i can see how to workaround but frankly channel 4 should make good on their promise and release a dedicated channel soon, they have said that they will do so this year!

Overall very impressed, its cheap, adaptable, easy to use and very affective, will probably end up getting another.

Lovely little player, still a joy to use after two years

I bought my Roku LT nearly two years ago and it's still used regularly.

So it's not the fanciest, and it doesn't have access to every source of media, but what it does it does brilliantly. We have this plugged into the TV in our spare room and it will often be left for weeks without use. However, whenever it is called upon it quickly springs to life and performs brilliantly.

We primarily use this for Netflix and catchup TV (iPlayer etc.) and it is faultless. Interface is fast and picture is sharp.

I also like the interaction with the phone app. I don't often use it but it's a nice touch.

I worry that in the future Roku may be eclipsed by the releases of similar products from larger brands like Amazon and Google. That would be a real shame because it's a lovely little player that is still a joy to use.

easy to setup and use

Very easy to setup, just plug it to the tv with the cable supplied -also has hdmi connector but cable not provided-, plug in to the mains and the box guides you through the installation process. A pc or other internet browser access device is needed as a roku account has to be created. This was no problem and it all worked just fine, I was up and running in just a few minutes.
Using it is also straightforward, menu driven with lots of channels available, including iplayer, crackle etc. My only grumbles are the lack of a browser to access more uk content or you-tube which are sorely lacking.
The shipment from amazon was -as always- perfect and timely.

I bought this little box last week with the intention of allowing the kids to watch netflix on an older TV in the room they use. As I am in Ireland I did a little research and found that in order to watch Netflix USA and to get a bigger choice of channels you can use a smart DNS supplier to give you a USA IP address (Unblock-Us). There is information online to tell you how to set up an USA Roku account.
This all worked easier than I had expected and now Kids have test driven unit (Nice and easy to operate and you can set a PIN to stop them adding paid for content) . As it's USA registered I don't get ITV player etc but the DNS service does allow the PC to access them and that's linked to the main TV so I am very happy.
Note the remote does seem to have to be pointed directly at box to get it to work and initially box seemed a bit slow but seemed to get better as I went along.
