There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
1) Screen - I foolishly closed the laptop with something hard in between and it damaged the screen. Cost £60 to get fixed and was my fault so not an issue.
2) Sound - quality of sound isn’t amazing but decent. However after about the third year, the sound started to break up and sometimes not work when NOT PLUGGED IN. This isn’t an issue for me as I use mine at home usually plugged in, but considering it started breaking after 3 years, i consider that pretty decent.
3) Memory - a decent memory of 390gb (what it says in settings), however if you’re a music geek and recording freak like me, more memory would be required. This again isn’t a problem for me personally as I have an external hard drive.
Battery life isn’t the best, and apparently screws up the sound after 3 years but isn’t too bad for me.
Easy to ya, great features and a big screen. After 5 years, I’m extremely happy with the purchase and would again if I didn’t need more memory :)
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! :D
Have to edit my review.... I bought this laptop to take to Spain to replace my old Asus laptop which has been an absolute warhorse, and fortunately still works. It is a bit noisier and only has a single core processor, but out-performed the new one from day one. Now the X555LA has become so slow and unreliable that I have had to take it in to a local repair shop (after about 30 hours of use) to see if he can get it to run and open applications. My advice would be buy something else.
Also, sound quality is surprisingly good, I was not expecting much from the speakers since I knew i'd use headphones most of the time anyway but the speakers in this are very usable.
TLDR; Will edit this review for performance later, mouse pad sucks, keyboard is a little flimsy but everything else exceeds expectations.
EDIT: So the performance is a little...meh. Basically, I upgraded the laptop to Windows 10 and I'm not sure if it's due to the specs of the laptop or something to do with Windows 10 but it seems much slower than it should be for a PC of this range. This PC makes a good entry-level video editor however and as a student with a main rig for editing already, it's great to be able to do some light editing on the go. It also can do some light gaming! I have been able to comfortably play Civilisation 5, Tales from the Borderlands, TES 4: Oblivion and a few older/lower-tech titles. I am pleasantly surprised in that aspect, I'm just disappointed with the performance in Windows, my guess is that Windows 10 requires more RAM than windows 8.1 however that's unconfirmed.
