Easily the best value you can get from a laptop of this price

I was a little skeptical when buying this laptop. It seemed too good to be true for the price, having an i7 and discrete graphics card. But after looking at feedback and reviews I bought it, and have loved this laptop ever since. I am a college student, so I need to be able to run programs like visual studio, eclipse, and also gaming on the side is nice. It runs flawlessly, I haven't had a lag spike or glitch in a single thing. I can run as many programs as I want without issue. As for the gaming quality, it isn't a top of the line gaming PC, but for a little package it packs a punch. I can run League of Legends at ultra at around 200FPS, it can handle Just Cause 2 at high res without a hiccup.

Now to address the complaints about the screen. Sure, it isn't the best, if you're looking at the screen from the side you're going to see a dim/black screen, but for normal view this doesn't affect a thing. For the distorted text on menus, this does happen occasionally. On SOME system menus, the text will be a bit fuzzy and small. It can be annoying, but for what the laptop offers I can easily overlook this, especially because it only happens on certain menus. Web browsers and programs display without a problem.

-Looks and feels great

Cons
-Screen text can be a little fuzzy
-Not much else to say here

All in all, the laptop has the best value you can get, and doesn't come with any unnecessary features like touch screen or swivel display. I would completely recommend this computer to anyone needing a lightweight computer that still is a powerhouse.

Stay away, great specs but sloppy quality control

On paper this is a fantastic machine. If only it were built out of parts that could maintain their specifications for more than three hours.

Seriously fast setup, fast computer, nice display and good feel on the keyboard. The touchpad leaves a bit to be desired, feels a bit like it might fall apart on the next double click.

Got the thing running, waited the required 3 hour charge as recommended by ASUS. Life is great, I love this laptop. Wake from sleep and wifi adapter is gone. About 5 hours of troubleshooting, driver installation, and even system reset (nice feature) later, I must conclude the wifi adapter is actually ghosted from the system at the hardware level.

If the basic components can't even sustain a sleep cycle, or whatever madness happened after tipping the screen back open, then what an I think of the more critical components?

Its possible I'm one of the few outliers in the bad reviews. It's possible you buy this badass computer and have no problems with it. It's also possible ASUS is cool with having no quality control.

This machine is great if you get a unit without the devastating problems others have reported. It's super fast and huge bang for the buck. I ignored the few negative reviews because of so many awesome reviews, and am currently waiting for a refund.

It'll work out better for you.

I have a love/hate relationship with this laptop, but currently we are on good terms, so with that being said, here is my review. I purchased this after seeing mostly positive reviews of this model, with a few negative reviews based on either the touch pad, or the display, or the hardware, etc. I saw an open box special from Amazon warehouse on the laptop and didnt want to pass up the opportunity to purchase this pc at a good price. When I first purchased it though, I had plenty of BSODs, mosly memory management. From reading other reviews, it seemed that it was happening with other people as well. Also the fans were pretty loud, and the touch pad was protruding outwards. But after some driver updates, the BSODs would happen less and less, and as for the touch pad i didnt care since i use an external mouse. Everything runs pretty smoothly on the PC, it has absolutely no problem with everyday tasks and regular use. The battery also lasts pretty long, but I keep it charging every chance I get. I do play some games on it, The Witcher trilogy, which works fine (on lowest settings), Mass effect trilogy (on lowest settings), and currently CIV VI and it all looks great. The web cam works great during skype and facetime. The sound is all right, better than most laptops, but that isnt saying much. Also love that it has light up keyboard. Everything seemed to be going all right for the most part, but then the Windows Anniversary Upgrade came out and the BSODs kept popping up constantly. Any program would cause a BSOD, and it got to the point that i decided to revert back to a previous build, instead for some reason the whole OS was erased and I had to send the PC to repair. Asus Customer Service treated me fine, and although I had read plenty of mixed reviews on the service repair center where my laptop went to, my pc was there for less than a week, they sent it back, changed the hard drive and also fixed the touch pad and it has been working absolutely fine since then. I also added an 8gb stick of ram (now have 12gb of ram in total) and also a 1tb SSD drive and the pc is working just fine. So if you do decide to buy it, and you get the BSODs make sure to update both the BIOS and your drivers, and I'd recommend on upgrading your ram and drive as well.

This laptop is a great deal for the price, especially considering what is available in Canada right now. The internals are great: dedicated graphics card that isn't too shabby, processor that will hold it's own for several years, and and SSD.

There were some minor things that I noticed, and are brought up in the other reviews. The trackpad for this laptop is not very good. It works, and is responsive, but it doesn't feel as premium as the rest of the laptop. It feels out of place.

Also, the screen. I can see what other users are saying about the bad viewing angles, but it has never been a problem for me. I view my laptop at normal angles, and the 0.1% of cases that screen might not be ideal are not worth considering.

All in all, a great deal, a solid laptop, from a solid brand.

I have had this laptop for about 2 months now! Let me tell you, I am so happy with this purchase. I had a bad experience one time with an Asus computer and ever since then I have tried a few other brands. This time around after doing some review I ended up going with Asus again, specifically this model and I do not regret it at all. Everything is quality about it. It looks great and it is very fast and reliable. I like the screen because its anti glare and the keyboard layout and quality is the best I have had so far. I know a few people said the screen resolution could be better but to be honest I have had no problems with it at all. The only thing I could say that could have been better about the laptop is it's sound system. For a laptop that advertises about having good sound with its "sonic master" system, it is pretty average. Nothing about the sound system is impressive. So if that is something you think is very important, this laptop may not be for you. But again love this laptop! if you want something for you everyday use with some kick and power to it, this is your laptop!!!!

Fast, durable, and effective. I've been able to run Virtual Machines on this device without it being sluggish with no issue. The backlight keyboard is awesome as well. The only issue I have with it is the awful trackpad, but I was able to get some customized drivers which fixed most of my issues. I've had a few friends who had cheaper ASUS models that have had major issues, but this particular model has been excellent so far.

Great Laptop for the price, but there are some pros and cons.

The screen has good viewing angles left and right. But my god the slightest movement of the screen up and down and all the colors shift

The Keyboard is good, nice back light ok for the price

The Aluminum screen attracts alot of finger prints so of that drives you crazy I would avoid. The inside of the laptop isn't as bad.

The plastic bottom makes the laptop feel cheap, but then again at the price and this specs, corners need to get cut.

Pros include:

I`m really disapointed that i spent 1300$ for this and the left click on the touch pad is damaged, if you click on the extremity it doesn`t work... so i have to always press in the middle or the right extremity, i didn`t expect to get a product in bad condition when you pay 1300$, it`s just laughing at your customers, not i`m looking to get refunded and buy from someone else.
