I never leave comments nor complain, but this was supposed to be brand new. Came in a new box, packaging looked new and it actually took me a few days to realize, but there was a crack near the end on the trackpad where a piece of the clear plastic had been chipped off. Almost unnoticeable. Be careful and make sure that you inspect the product!

I started getting a very sore forefinger out of the blue. The knuckle join became so sore I wondered what I had done to injure the ligaments around it. My chiropractor said "your joints only have so much life in them and then they start to wear out. Because you're a web designer and work on your computer all day long, your mouse finger is experiencing that wear. You should look into alternatives to using a mouse." So I got this little trackpad, hooked it up to my iMac, and within a day of using it the soreness abated! Sometimes I still use the mouse for some things that just go faster with it ( some things are nearly impossible with the trackpad, like dragging files from the finder to an upload window, though dragging emails from my inbox to a folder works fine), but if I forget and start using the mouse too much, the ligaments in the knuckle joint of my finger get really sore again. Switching back to my trackpad always resolves it. I can tell a very definite difference if I use the trackpad exclusively for a day vs. using my mouse. The trackpad has a light touch so I can feel that the wear and tear on my hands overall is greatly reduced in comparison to using my mouse. And it's just nice not to use one finger to click all the time, but to be able to use a softer touch to tap and to use other fingers (or combinations of them, taking pressure off the one that gets sore) to accomplish the same tasks. Plus, it has a sleek profile on my desk and looks great. I wish I didn't need my mouse to perform certain tasks any more, but I'm so happy to have the relief I've found by using my new trackpad for almost everything!

Was Considering Apple Magic Trackpad 1. Glad I Went With This One!

I’m one of those users that likes working with the Trackpad on my MacBook Pro. I prefer it to Apple’s Magic Mouse (I have one of those at the office and I’m not a fan).

While researching this product, I came across some users mentioning that they preferred the first Apple Magic Trackpad, despite the fact that you had to buy batteries for it. This made me a little hesitant to get the Magic Trackpad 2 but I took a chance on it.

I’m happy to report that for the last two months it has exceeded my expectations as far as a trackpad can. It’s very responsive when it’s 2 feet (60 cm) away from my computer. I’ve tested it as far back as 6 feet (182 cm)and it works well. The size of the trackpad is large, and despite this, I haven’t experienced many accidental dragging or clicks.

I also haven’t experienced any pain while using this device, I use it for around 3-4 hours most evenings. If you are prone to wrist pain I would recommend doing a bit more research before purchasing. Most of my work revolves around creating things on Adobe InDesign, Excel spreadsheets, programming and everyday YouTube, Netflix, Amazon use.

Within the last two months I’ve only recharged it twice, and one of those wasn’t necessary because the battery wasn’t depleted, I just felt like charging it. When comparing the battery life to my Apple Magic Keyboard, this device normally drains around 10-15% faster than my Keyboard. For example, if my Keyboard is at 88% battery, my Track Pad is at around 73% battery.

I heard some users experienced finger cuts while using the Magic Mouse because of its sharp edges. There are none of those issues here as far as I’ve experienced. All in all, this is a great product and I would definitely purchase it again. The only thing I’m curious about is how long the battery life will be. I’m hoping to get a solid 4 years out of this device and I’ll be revisiting my review at around the 2-year mark to let you know how it is!

Great Mouse Alternative

These trackpads are fine for everyone, but I purchased them for my elementary school students with significant developmental delays who are having difficulty learning to use the computer mouse. The gray contrasts nicely with my whitish tables, making it easier for the students to locate. This is a larger version of what is found on laptops. The larger size makes it easier for my students to use. I like that I can program them to simplify the touch inputs; I turned off all multi-touch functions that can be eliminated because my students are still learning to isolate one finger. Several students are now better with the trackpad than they ever were with the mouse. I was going to return half of my order and use these only with my younger students, but I decided to keep the extra four for my older students because two of my ten-year-old students learned to tap the trackpad better than they could ever click the mouse button. Over time, I expect that more of my slowest learners will learn to use the trackpad. After being exposed to both input devices, some of my students do better with the mouse and others prefer the trackpad. It is great to have both options available (I only wish that being a teacher was not such an expensive career!). I even know a few teachers who prefer the trackpad over the mouse because that is what they learned first.

In case anyone is interested, I paired each trackpad to a different computer, gave it that computer's number in system preferences (i.e. "trackpad #1"), and then taped a piece of paper with that computer's number onto the bottom of each trackpad. So far, I have not had any difficulty with a trackpad accidentally operating two computers simultaneously, but I only have four of my eight trackpads operating right now. I hope that when I get all eight going they continue to only operate their assigned computers.

I also seriously considered purchasing the older trackpads because they will work just fine with my lab's iMacs, but I wanted the gray and it only came in the Apple Magic Trackpad 2 model. After several days of debating with myself and asking teaching assistants for their opinions, I went with the more expensive model in gray to make things easier on my students.

Similar to someone else in the posts, I had received a USED AND possibly COUNTERFEIT product. When I received the product, it was not shrink-wrapped like original products and upon connecting it to my iMac, there was someone else's name attached to the trackpad already! I checked the Energy Verified symbol on the back of the box like another reviewer had suggested and it was misspelled as Energy Veryfied!

Please double-check the item you receive to make sure it is authentic!

UPDATE: Customer service was very helpful and sorted out the problems I was having.

1. Received an opened item even though its advertised as new.
2. It doesn't sit flush with a perfectly flat surface - one of the corners lifts up and bangs against the desk every time you touch it
3. Connectivity issues with a Mac
4. Probably the most important - according to Apple, the serial number does not exist. Not sure if its stolen or a fake but either way its very sketchy.

- rechargable built in battery
- bigger than original, nice and wide
- looks great in the space grey
- solid weight, doesn't move

Cons:
- force feedback, or whatever, the little extra click has no use but to frustrate you when you accidentally trigger it while dragging stuff. (Disable it in the OS, you'll thank me.)
- charger is via lightning rather than more universal USB C
- Expensive just because it's black and it's extra force engine feedback thingy

After years of using a Macbook, I've become quite accustomed to the Magic Trackpad. So, when I had the opportunity to upgrade my office desktop peripherals, I decided to make the switch. However, after about two days of use, I realized that this might not have been for the better.

Although the gestures' capability added more functionality in interacting with programs, there were multiple instances when the trackpad would lose connection to my Mac Pro. This wasn't very enjoyable. Additionally, I found using the trackpad uncomfortable after long seven-hour sessions.
