audio does not work

I have a home theater system that uses an IR blaster system to control the electronics which are located about 15 feet from the screen. I tried using this to connect an IR sensor with a male audio connection to this adapter. The adapter then plugged into an HDMI wall connection. The HDMI cable runs through the ceiling to the IR receiver/blaster where I had to plug in the 2nd HDMI/audio adapter to the HDMI cable on the other end and then plug in the male to male wire that came with each adapter, into my IR receiver/blaster controller. The IR sensor would not respond. My current setup involves connecting my IR sensor to a 2-wire audio connection in the wall and the 3rd wire from the IR sensor to my cable TV wire. The cable TV wire and speaker wires run through the ceiling and end at the IR receiver/blaster controller where I spliced in the 3-wire audio, male plug and insert the plug into my IR receiver/blaster controller. The current system works great, but I needed the 4th speaker wire connection in the front of the room to be able to wire my subwoofer to. I was hoping the HDMI adapter to audio would work in order to free up the 4th speaker wire connections. Nope. It didn't work. I'm looking around my home for some male VGA plugs to see if I can use those to wire up my IR blaster system. If that doesn't work, I'm planning to return both adapters.

I had an old PC flatscreen monitor, and a BluRay player that was just lying around gathering dust. The monitor was old enough, it only had the VGA input. And a powered stereo speaker, of course.

So for $10 and some "found treasure", I created a small, one-person BluRay player setup-- perfect for the top of a desk, or in my case, a workplace viewer of movies (to check for defective discs, and when there was nothing else going on-- a fairly frequent event, in the mornings). Works for DVDs too, obviously.

So I ordered this gizmo, and it was dirt simple to use: Plug into the back of the BluRay player, plug the monitor's VGA cable into the gizmo, and plug a male-to-male patch cable between the gizmo and the powered speaker.

Turn everything on? *boom* Picture and sound. Pop in a movie? It's playing, no fuss, no complicated configuring- it just works.

More than good enough, and superior to any small form-factor TV I could purchase; for some reason makers of TVs seem to think that small form-factor means "super low quality". My PC monitor is a true 1080p, in spite of being only a VGA input. You simply cannot get a TV this small, with this level of picture quality anymore.

I also love that I re-purposed old equipment that otherwise would have been trash. Recommended.

Note: I cannot comment on durability as yet, I just set this up. Will update if this thing fails, but so far? It Just Works.

Update: returned the first and got a second hoping maybe I got a bad batch, the second doesn't work on my monitor either. Be aware that this device may not work with your exact monitor and there's no telling why, I know it's the device because I have a different HDMI to VGA adapter (without the audio port) that works perfectly with all of my devices. This will not work for any of my devices.

It won't output anything, I can tell it's trying because it keeps waking the monitor but nothing actually shows up. I know my monitor is working fine because I have another VGA to HDMI adapter that works fine just without the audio port.

I have this between my AppleTV (with the tablet-y remote) and my "How on Earth does this still run" component-only 720p TV from 2000ish. It works great! The audio and video are exactly as expected, and it hasn't shouted at me over any HDMI protection scheme stuff. Of course I mostly use the Apple TV to watch baseball which might not have those extra security things on.

The problem is that they put something this size in a space where they expected a nice, little, narrow HDMI cable. So putting the audio out port at a right angle means it wants to come out right where, say, a power cable wants to be. I solved this by using a right-angle adapter for the audio, but a better solution would be to pick up a very short HDMI extension to go between this and the target device.

I have just received my adapter and plugged it into the back of my Xbox One and have verified that the video and audio worked. I am connecting my Xbox to a computer monitor that doesn't have HDMI in and I'm using small computer speakers. So my concern isn't about best video/audio quality. Although both are adequate for my particular needs.
My concern was if the form factor would fit into the HDMI out port that is located next to the large power connector. I can report that it fits perfectly/securely and has plenty of room for the VGA adapter to plug into it and not disturb the power connector. I can say that the form factor for this is solidly built. It also comes with a male-to-male 3.5mm audio cable that is about 3ft (1m) long (that I didn't use in the photo).

Died without warning after a year

I bought two of these. One for projector screens, and the second was a backup. The first lasted about a year, without ever being moved or any strain put on it. Then one day it just stopped working, without warning. I replaced it with my never used backup and the same result happened. It worked for almost a year, then it stopped working altogether. It's worth the extra money to buy a heavy duty converter box if you need dependability.

It works great with my 19in Dell monitor. I use it on Raspberry Pi 2 board. Don't want to buy a new TV or monitor. I have a Dell 19in monitor purchased with Dell Desktop more than 10 years ago. I like to use it for my Raspberry Pi 2. Since it only has VGA connector, I purchased this converter. It does not work at first. I searched internet and find I need to set HDMI group and mode correctly. After I did that, it works. I am so glad that I could reuse my old gear.

This converter has HDMI audo plug. The sound is not as good as my desktop computer. However, I tried the audio jack on board and it is much worse. So I think the problem is my board. The converter is good.

I recommend this product to guys who want to reuse old monitor.

I have a monitor with a single VGA input, while almost all my sources have HDMI output. This tiny little think converted my VGA cable immediately to fully functional and connectable cable to any HDMI source. I got two of them. It comes also with a stereo audio cable for its audio output to connect your amplifier or your amplified speakers to it.
Advantages: video+audio, small, plug and play.
Disadvantages: None! Practically consider, for really tight spaces, that it's thicker than a normal HDMI connector, plus it needs space for the audio connection.
