I openly admit that I have fallen in a big way for Google Plus. It solves a number of social internet problems in a simple and elegant way.
A number of months ago I wrote this post about how good the mobile apps for Google Plus are and how Flipboard should watch out. Both Flipboard and Google Plus are my go-to apps for consuming content and staying social. If Google were to incorporate an RSS reader into their social app I could happily drop Flipboard.
What about Google Reader?
Google Reader is a very functional RSS reader and I use it as a conduit for collecting feeds I want to read in one place. Flipboard is my consumption front end as it is nice to use and presents the content in an engaging way.
Why Google Plus
Google Plus is fast becoming the social network of choice for tech-savvy folk as it offers a wide variety of ways of keeping in touch and connecting with new people. I think of Google Plus more of a social platform than a social network as I can get it to behave a lot like Twitter or Facebook without having to go to those sites.
Because the web and mobile interfaces for Google Plus are now so good, incorporating some of the older web services under this umbrella seems to be consistent with Googles strategy. And RSS feeds are still relevant and will continue to be relevant for a long time – especially for bloggers.

Imagine a web and mobile app that you can access your social and news feeds in a simple and consistent way. Not only that but how easy it could be to share great content with your social network / community. This could take some of the heavy lifting out of being social and make for better social data for Google to mine…
