If you are tech tired, go on a tech diet

Having been inundated with a whole raft of new stuff from Apple – not to mention the Google Nexus 5 and Surface Pro 2 – it’s no wonder that some start getting a little tech-tired.

Tech-tired

For those not in the know, this is my term for those people who have been there, done it and got the iDevice to prove it. It is the fatigue that sets in when you’ve seen all the high-res retina screens going, swiped and swooshed across a glass display and feel a little numb. Whether you are an Apple fanboy or Google Geek we all feel the strain in a similar way after a serious bought of binging. So, if you are suffering from some tech-tired aliments then rest assured that you can go on a tech-diet to help sort you out…

Tech-diet

The tech-diet is your chance to limit exposure to tech news, gadgets and technology in general. Avoid the social networks, put down that mouse and just be social. Meet with and talk to real people or take a walk and enjoy the rain. Even short breaks from your technology can help. By connecting with the real world and avoiding the virtual (for a little while at least) your eyes get a chance to recover and fingers get to behave normally again.

Whilst on your tech-diet it is advisable not to snack (tweets are cheats) and make the most of your time away from the screen.

Old School

You may wish to go back the the Old School when not surfing a tech high wave and make some notes using a pen and paper. Or you might find solace in strumming an acoustic guitar and reading books. Whatever you choose, you need to remember that the point is to temporarily break free from our tech-overlords and do something else less boring instead.

Irony

The irony of me writing this on a technology focused blog is not lost on me. But it does account for the slight let up in pace of posts. This is because I’ve started to think more about technologies power to enable and empower folk and less about the latest whizz bang feature. Sure, I’ll get seduced by some new small and light thing in the future but for now I’m on a diet – as soon as I finish this… Honest.
