Make Sure Your Phone Battery Is Charged

If you plan to be flying around America then to avoid falling foul of having to surrender your device to airport security then make sure it is charged. The TSA announced yesterday that it will be enhancing security measures and that ‘powerless devices will not be permittedĀ onboard the aircraft‘. I’m not exactly sure what happens to your device – it might just be seized under suspicion of it being used for something unsavoury.

Avoid the issue

To avoid being unlucky you can however take a couple of precautions. The first is to carry a charging cable and plug in your hand luggage. At least that way you can prove your phones actual capabilities if it does run out of juice. Otherwise you may want to invest in a USB charging pack [US Link] and hold that too. Before you go through security make sure that there is some power on your phone and if not then get a top up from your battery pack.

These items will add a little bit of weight to your hand luggage but may be the difference between keeping your phone and getting it seized.

Anyone experienced this

This advice is written from someone who is unlikely to fly in the states anytime soon and wanted to get out some top tips as soon as I had heard about the announcement. But if you are a frequent international flyer who has had their device checked for power then I’d like to hear what the security check is like.
