One week on, my iPad Mini thoughts

iPad Mini Thoughts

So I’ve had an iPad Mini for a week now and I thought I would share my thoughts about it.

The Screen Is Brilliant

Side by side the display isn’t as good as the Retina Display of the full iPad. That said the screen is better than that of the iPad 2 and is great. It’s blimming wide when compared against other 7″ tablets. The width makes the Nexus 7 look positively skinny. It also means that the iPad Mini can be used as equally well in landscape as well as portrait. Other 7″-ers don’t necessarily work so brilliantly in landscape.

It’s so lovely in hand

Wow this thing is thin. All this computing power and computing potential in something so thin and light is genuinely amazing. All of the photos and videos don’t convey how gorgeous it is to hold and use.

Sounds pretty smart too

The iPad range has pretty decent sound. If you are without a set of speakers then listening to music or watching films using just the built in speakers is really good. Yeah, there is room for improvement but that shouldn’t detract from how good they genuinely are.

Someone needs to make an amazing case – for cheap

I struggle with spending £35 on some rubber, felt and a magnet. £20 would be tolerable but £35 just seems too steep. Unfortunately the iPad Mini needs something to protect it from surfaces and surfaces from it. Until that magic cover for not much money comes my way I’ve stuck some felt pads on the back. I have a plastic case which takes too much away from the lovely-ness.

You don’t feel so stupid using the camera

Holding up a full iPad looks and feels odd. Waving around a big chunk of computing and screen is a bit wrong. The iPad Mini on the other hand has a great camera which works brilliant with software such as Evernote and Skitch.

It’s a wicked Kindle

I’ve not used my full sized iPad for reading books as it’s a bit bulky and cumbersome.

I want more battery

The biggest problem I have with my new toy is that I use the thing so much throughout the day that I want more battery life… Give me 20 hours battery life – pretty please Apple.
