It is important that you take time to improve and be better at what you do. Many people associate this time with structured training, which whilst incredibly useful isn’t always the best way to develop. Instead you should be taking time out not to be lazy but to put your brain in a mode that is receptive to having more ideas.
Does timeout mean doing nothing?
Timeout isn’t an excuse for being lazy, nope instead it is time when you are doing a task that isn’t too demanding… This could be as simple as talking a walk, or doing some filing. The task needs to be easy to complete as by putting your brain into a ticking over mode it fosters your ability to have creative thoughts.
Creative thoughts are where the good stuff is
Thinking creatively is the first step on the road to acting and then being creative. And it’s this uniquely human trait that other people respond to. Sure not all of your creative ideas are going to be winners but then again not having a creative thought is definitely a recipe for a dull and uninspired life.
From thoughts to actions
Once you’ve had a few half decent thoughts it is important that you put these into action. You may be slightly disappointed with the response you get from your first few efforts. This is natural. Expect for people to be indifferent to what you are offering as they’ve probably witnessed better, more creative actions elsewhere.
Don’t give up
After your first few brainwaves underwhelm it is easy to think that being creative is for someone else. You need to dig in and continue. Repeat, improve, repeat, improve is the cycle that you need to get into the habit of. The one day one (or more) of your creative moments will hit the spot and people will start to take notice. What you do with this new found creativity is then in your gift to use creatively.
So take time out to have ideas, let you mind wonder as you carry out a mundane / simple task and open yourself up to being more creative. What could possibly go wrong?
