I’ve only had the Nexus 4 two days and I’m starting to feel some pain. To be honest this is a lot sooner than expected… Jelly Bean is a great OS as I’ve mentioned before and I know that it is going to take a little while to get used to how it functions on a day to day basis.
What I’m really struggling with though, is that whilst I can pair my handset with my bluetooth car kit I cannot hear or be heard. This is a big blow for me as I spend quite an amount of time on the road and need to be able to make and receive calls. I’m also a little disappointed as when you spend this kind of money on a gadget you shouldn’t expect that some of its core functionality just doesn’t work.
I’ve done some Google-ing around and it appears that there are some known issues with BT and that hopefully this will be fixed. I need to continue my research to find out if it is just an issue with my car kit or whether this is a more fundamental issue. In the meantime I’m going to have to rely on my iPhone for calls in the car and Nexus elsewhere. This is not an ideal situation as I don’t really want to have to carry two phones around with me.
It has already crossed my mind about selling the Nexus 4 whilst they are in short supply. I was keen to become an Android advocate as think there are some really interesting devices on the market. But this has stopped me in my tracks. If there doesn’t appear to be a resolution I will have to consider my options very carefully as I currently need to be able make and receive calls through Bluetooth.

It’s a OS Jelly Bean issue. So it effects a large spectrum of devices that have Jelly Bean. You are not alone brother.
It’s a real drag… Although hopefully Android 4.2.2 will fix the issue when that comes out.
No 4.2.2 doesn’t fix the issue either! 🙁
what the !!! I got the 4.2.2 with Nexus 4 . But I still can not use bluetooth of Nexus4 in my car! (can’t hear or be heard)
Hi Jerry – I feel your pain as this is exactly what I’ve experienced. Unfortunately 4.2.2 doesn’t solve the problem. I have found that my £20 Bluetooth headset works. However, for the time being I’m using an iPhone 4 for in car calling. Not ideal at all!
I posted a question on a google discussion group in February. There were thousands of complains. Mine is the same as yours. Still no resolution with my Nexus 4 and bluetooth in my 2010 Mercedes A160.
I am going back to my Nexus S and even considering getting a iphone. I feel really let down by Google. They clearly have not road tested the device as Samsung or even LG would do. So I guess the knock down price is reasonable given its poor software.

Dont know if this helps but in my vauxhall insignia with nexus 4 if I pair device but then use the phone to make a call and hang up. After this first call successive calls to and from the car controls work fine.
