Sales of used books, CD’s and consumer technology at MusicMagpie jumped more than 22% to nearly £120m in the UK. So, with us all spending much more time at home, the sales of second hand books have increased by 75%, with consumer technology growing by 20%.
MusicMagpie was founded in a Stockport garage in 2007 and only traded CD’s. Thirteen years on, the company mainly specialises in purchase and resale of consumer tech – such and smartphones and games consoles. MusicMagpie sell refurbished tech through Amazon, eBay and it’s own website.
Sales of used goods has soared on eBay too, with the site reporting more than a 30% increase of secondhand (or vintage) fashion. So, this has grown into being the biggest category for the online marketplace. Because of this, more and more of us are getting used to buying and selling clothes.
My MusicMagpie Experience
I’ve purchased a number of secondhand CD’s and know they are all from MusicMagpie as they have a little card within the case. Most of these have been purchased from Poundland, with the occassional purchase from eBay and I must say the quality has been spot on. I only rip the CD once and then stream it across my network, with the original then being put away just in case there is an issue with the digital files. I personally find the quality of audio from CD superior to that of most streaming services, so for listening at home, it is my preferred method of playback.
