You love your iPad Mini and now find that you want to connect it to a VGA Projector. First of all you need to get hold of a Lightning to VGA Adapter [US Link]. Unfortunately there aren’t any cheap alternatives. You need to purchase the original from Apple because the adapter has a chip inside which protects against using unbranded alternatives. When you have it plugged in you can also charge your iPad Mini by plugging in a Lightning Cable that is connected to a power source:

This cable or accessory is not certified and may not work reliably with this iPad.
Aspect Ratio
Once you have the adapter all you need to do is plug it into the Lightning port and then run a VGA male to male cable [US Link] from it to your projector. This works better if you have an older 4:3 ratio projector as this matches the display ratio from the iPad. It will work with 16:9 and 16:10 projectors but you end up with black ‘ears’ either side of the image.
Old Adapters
You cannot connect an old style 30 pin VGA adapter into your iPad with a Lightning to 30 pin adapter as this method does not support video output. This works with audio output one, I’ve tried it and that doesn’t work so you don’t have to.
